Vance McSwain, artist & instructor

Vance McSwain has created beautiful and challenging images for decades. His style can best be described as Contemporary Realism, combining the visual beauty and excitement of contemporary art with the drawing and painting skills present in traditional and academic art. With his refined touch, Vance’s portraits capture the soul and emotion of his subjects. His more imaginative pieces evoke Francis Bacon and Egon Schiele, but with a voice all his own.

Vance received a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Art Education from Texas Tech University. He studied in Italy and also learned directly from Emilio Caballero, Ken Dixon, Clarence Kincaide, Mike Mahon, Ann Templeton, and Keith Wicks. As Mr. McSwain, he taught high school art for 30 years and survived to tell the tale. Vance has won numerous awards in both oil and pastel, and his work is represented in private collections throughout the area.
